History of Asian/Asian American Studies at Syracuse University
The Asian/Asian American Studies program at Syracuse University was formed as a result of student activism for over a decade. A faculty and student committee was formed in 2008 to develop the program and minor; the proposal for the minor was submitted in 2009 and approved in the spring of 2010. Professor Prema Kurien is the founding Director. There is an Advisory Committee comprised of faculty and students to provide support and guidance to the program. Currently over 30 courses offered on campus and abroad contribute to this minor and the program is growing rapidly.
